Calibrators

In the electrical and electronic world most devices are designed to work within in preset limits and specifications. If a piece of equipment fails to stay within these specifications a manufactured product can be produced that is not acceptable and in fields like pharmaceuticals this can lead to drugs that are made that can cause serious injury or death instead of healing the person taking them. To ensure that all equipment stays within the preset operating range, calibrators are used to adjust and reset any of the electronics devices being used.

There are several different types of calibrators used depending on the type of devices being tested and calibrated. The black box calibrator is used to calibrate infrared pyrometers, infrared thermometers and usually consists of a target plate that has a very high emissivity. Because the temperature of the plate can be controlled to very precise tolerances it makes it easy to test and calibrate a pyrometer by comparing the known temperature of the plate against the reading on the pyrometer and adjusting the meter until the numbers match.

When you are using calibrators to test equipment such as thermocouples you need to have a good reference signal. To do this a piece of equipment known as simulator is used to generate a specific reference signal. This then allows the technician to make any necessary adjustments to the circuitry so that the display reads the exact same number as the reference signal displays on the calibration instrument. This can be especially useful when it is necessary to adjust sensors and thermocouples and top line calibrators can not only generate the signal but can display the reference signal and the reading at the same time for easy comparison.

Today’s fast paced manufacturing facility is a maze of high speed equipment that operates on split second timing and requires temperatures that are accurately monitored to within extremely small variances. To properly test the temperature probes used to measure these minute temperature variances takes special calibrators know as Fluidized Sand Bath Temperature Probe calibrators. These devices make use of low pressure gases such as nitrogen or air flowing through particles of aluminum oxide that simulate the turbulence of boiling liquids to quickly bring the temperature probe up to temperature and allow it to be tested for accuracy.

If you need a calibrator for testing thermocouples often an Ice Point Calibration Reference Chamber is used. The Ice Chamber makes use of thermoelectric cooling elements that can produce an extremely stable 0 ˚C reference chamber. This chamber is used to test temperature probes and can also be used to calibrate and test instruments that are used to read thermocouples for proper operation.

If your business involves the use of digital calibrations for testing electronic equipment on a regular basis and it is time to replace and or upgrade your current equipment Tek-Inst has the testing calibrators that you need. You should never attempt to calibrate, test or recalibrate electronic equipment without the right equipment so make sure that your technicians always have the latest equipment to make sure that they can do their jobs safely and accurately with the latest in calibrators from Tek-Inst.
